A Monster Calls Review

Even though I have read this book once already, I knew with the movie being in the works I had to give it a re-read. Patrick Ness is one of my favorite authors, and for good reason, his writing always has a way of wiggling into my brain. Even after reading A Monster Calls for the second time, I still found it as enjoyable as the first! This review will be extremely difficult for me to write due to my immense love of this story and author, so please bear with me 🙂

🌿The Monster’s tales were told so beautifully, and alongside the pictures, everything about them were amazing. The morals behind each one were easy to see, and at times a bit predictable. Nevertheless, A Monster Calls is a book I can proudly say I would recommend to anyone.

🌿 I loved Conner, how we got to know and understand him through the Monster and his actions was written so well. The story being about a little boy going through a hard time is a bit relateable in that life can be harsh. What Conner goes through is told very well, and in that I find great enjoyment in Patrick Ness’s writing 😀

🌿 This was a quick book to get into, and an easy, interesting read. The short chapters made it even harder to put down! Everything from the story to the pictures adds a unique element to the book I haven’t seen in many others.

🌿Fair warning: this book is a Roller Coaster full of the “feels.” I cried even after knowing what happens, I cried so much!

Truly, words can not describe my love for this book and this review does not do it justice! It is so difficult to explain my feelings on A Monster Calls, so I apologize for the shortness of this review… I also can’t think of any books like this one, so I don’t have any recommendations 😦
