Under The Radar 2017 Books With Wizards?!?!?

I liked doing last weeks Under The Radar post about sci fi books so if you want some recommendations go there!!!

But I think I’m just going to make these posts longer so I can fit more great sounding books in. While I was going through my list I noticed a certain trend which is the topic of this post. There seems to be quite a few young adults books being published about wizards and magic. And let’s be honest here, who doesn’t live magic or wizards?!?

1. Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

Packed with dark magic and thrilling action, Beasts Made of a Night is a gritty Nigerian-influenced fantasy perfect for fans of Paolo Bacigalupi and Nnedi Okorafor.

In the walled city of Kos, corrupt mages can magically call forth sin from a sinner in the form of sin-beasts – lethal creatures spawned from feelings of guilt.

Taj is the most talented of the aki, young sin-eaters indentured by the mages to slay the sin-beasts. But Taj’s livelihood comes at a terrible cost. When he kills a sin-beast, a tattoo of the beast appears on his skin while the guilt of committing the sin appears on his mind. Most aki are driven mad by the process, but 17-year-old Taj is cocky and desperate to provide for his family.

When Taj is called to eat a sin of a royal, he’s suddenly thrust into the center of a dark conspiracy to destroy Kos. Now Taj must fight to save the princess that he loves – and his own life.

Debut author Tochi Onyebuchi delivers an unforgettable fantasy adventure that powerfully explores the true meaning of justice and guilt.

I’ve only read one of Nnedi Okorafor’s books but it was AWESOME so if you tell me it’s for fans of her books I have to read it. I need it right now :o! Only this book sounds kind of too dark for me but it might be something you could enjoy!

2. 4 Wizards by Noelle Stevenson and Todd Casey

The series follows four oddball wizards who discover that the only place they truly fit in is with each other, and together they must stop a sinister force from invading their world.

It doesn’t have a cover yet and I’m not sure if that’s going to be the title but OH MY GOSH 4 oddball wizards? YESSSSSSS I NEEED THIS NOWWWWWWW.

3. The Wishing Heart by J.C. Welker

A unique new romantic debut, F/F Young Adult Fantasy releasing with Entangled Teen.

A seventeen-year-old girl wishing to fix her ailing heart, steals a vase containing a bound jinni and quickly finds herself the target of every magical mobster in the city.

Magical mobsters and a jinni? It sounds interesting to me 🙂

4. The Girl With The Red Balloon by Katherine Locke

When sixteen-year-old Ellie Baum accidentally time-travels via red balloon to 1988 East Berlin, she’s caught up in a conspiracy of history and magic. She meets members of an underground guild in East Berlin who use balloons and magic to help people escape over the Wall—but even to the balloon makers, Ellie’s time travel is a mystery. When it becomes clear that someone is using dark magic to change history, Ellie must risk everything—including her only way home—to stop the process.

I heard someone mention it before, but I really found this book on Netgalley. The balloon thing sounds really original to me, I would have never thought to use balloons with magic!
