Ten Books We Loved Less Than Other People-Top Ten Tuesday #65

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

This week’s theme is ten books we loved more or less than other people. So Brianna and I decided to do books we loved less and most of these are on here thanks to the hype machine. Sometimes hype works for books but other times it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t it makes us all sad. hug-gif

It’s okay, it happens to us all *hugs*

Now on to the real list of books we didn’t love but others seemed to love.

1. Truthwitch

TruthwitchbySusanDennard

I liked this one, but the more I think about it, the less I liked it, if that makes sense :/. I think the world was interesting, yet it didn’t hold my interest or really wow me. Although, it was a pretty cool fantasy story, just not for me. I’m the odd one out here though, I think a lot of people really enjoyed this book and for good reason 🙂 It was just not for me.

2. Ready Player One

ready player one

This book was SUPER disappointing to me. There’s a lot of hype and excitement surrounding this book because it’s going to be a movie, and I think the movie will be pretty cool. I love video games! This book had way too much info dumping, and not enough focus on plot… it was also predictable 😦

3. The Winners Curse

the winers curse

Ohhhhhh man, this book is really popular *hides* I just found book one to be hard to get into and really boring. But I hear the series picks up with book 2 so I’m considering reading it to see if it gets more interesting :). I just didn’t like the world/story in this one.

4. The Darkest Minds

darkest minds

This one fell along the same lines of The Winner’s Curse. I heard nothing but good things about this one so I was pumped to read it… and I didn’t like it. I finished the book and wanted to DNF it so many times, I didn’t like any of the characters, the writing, or the story and it felt too much like other books I’ve read (sorry guys 😦 )

5. The Alchemists of Loom

the alchemists of loom

I REALLY love Air Awakens, yet somehow I didn’t love The Alchemists of Loom? I didn’t like the characters, but it was VERY original, and had some SUPER SUPER SUPER cool concepts that I adored. I just didn’t fall in love with the plot… sadly, it was slow and predictable.

6. The Forgetting

the forgetting

The Forgetting was just really hard for me to get in to. Nothing seemed to be explained in the end, the story showed more than told and I didn’t like the plot twist. :/

7. Passenger

passanger

I read an eARC of this one and was nooooooot a fan. I nearly DNFed it multiple times. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the characters, I didn’t like the plot (it was slow) and I wasn’t a fan of the story (sadly D:)

8. Unhookedunhooked

This one felt too fast??? Like, the story just zoomed by without world building and I didn’t enjoy the characters at all. I was excited about an evil Peter Pan but goodness, I didn’t like the twist on this one for whatever reason D:

9. The Shadow Queen

TheShadowQueenbyCJRedwine

I just couldn’t get into this one… I can’t remember why because it’s been a while… but I like the cover 🙂

10. Caraval

caravalI think this one was just victim to hype. The world was really cool, but I thought this story would focus more on sisterly love, and it didn’t. I was expecting more magic and more twists, but it wasn’t that magical and I predicted nearly all the twists. BUT I HAVE A FEELING BOOK TWO WILL BE AMAZING (not going to lie)

Well, it’s important to note that we are the odd ones out for these books 🙂 There’s nothing wrong with them, so please enjoy them XD!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

    1. Caraval wasn’t bad 🙂 I’m like 99% sure we just didn’t like it because of how much hype was around it, so I think if you wait longer, you’ll like it better :D! Thank you for stopping by, hopefully you enjoy them more than we did 🙂

    1. Sorry they fell victim to hype for you too 😦 hype can be a terrible monster… But I did hear that The Winner’s Curse gets better in the second book :). Thanks for the comment!

    1. I don’t remember why I didn’t like that book because its been so long… but the idea was cool! I’m glad you enjoyed The Forgetting and Winner’s Curse :)! Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I do agree on Caraval and The Alchemists of Loom. I thought I would love those books and I didn’t. And I know Truthwitch and Passenger were kind of hit and miss for people. But Ready Player One and The Forgetting are some that I totally loved. Great list!

    1. I think Caraval was just so hyped that my expectations were too high 😦 sorry you didn’t like those ones as much. I know I was definitely the odd one out on Ready Player One and The Forgetting 😦 but I am glad you enjoyed them! Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Ah well, I hope you enjoy them XD! I think a lot of it was just because of the hype, and sometimes hype makes my expectations unrealistically high D:… But I hope you enjoy them! And I’m glad you enjoyed Caraval! I was under the impression that it would have a large focus on their relationship but it felt more romance centered D: Thanks for stopping by!

      1. Yeah I totally agree on that. Hype makes you have crazy expectations. I was under that impression too and I was a little disappointed that it didn’t but I still enjoyed it.

  2. The Darkest Minds Trilogy was such a disappointment. I sincerely regret forcing myself to read the last two books. I didn’t mind the first novel–it frustrated me for sure and I felt like it was overhyped–but I enjoyed it enough to continue on. But the rest, meh.

I did like Passenger though! But I’m a sucker for time-traveling stories 😛

    1. I only read the first book but I kind of feel this… I really did not like the first book so I’m not too sure if I want to finish it? Sorry you weren’t a fan either. I’m glad you enjoyed Passenger though 😀 I love time travel stories too, I just didn’t like Passenger XD haha, thanks for stopping by!

  3. I’m glad I got to read “Ready Player One” before the hype and without having been influenced by any reviews so that I had zero expectations when I started reading it. I found it pretty addictive and enjoyed it a lot but there were a bit too many video games references which I just didn’t get, so I can actually follow your info dumping argument 😉

    1. Lucky! There’s been a lot of hype around it because of the movie so I think that made me dislike it more because my expectations were too high. I think he tried to go into too much detail…. but I can’t wait for the movie :D! Thanks for the comment!

  4. Oooh some VERY popular books in you list today!
I was the victim of the hype for Truthwitch, it just couldn’t meet the expectations that I had set for it. I was the opposite to you with The Winner’s Curse, I had heard great things but wasn’t expecting anything great -the storyline sounded a bit too predictable to me – but was pleasantly surprised when I enjoyed it so much.

    1. I know D:! so many of these books are highly praised…and I think they were mostly victim to hype. Sorry you didn’t like Truthwitch either, but I’m glad you enjoyed The Winner’s Curse :D! It’s a popular series, I have no idea why I didn’t enjoy it more… Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  5. It’s never been that hype has ruined them for me rather that I’ve read them and personally thought they weren’t as good as people made them out to be. These books I probably wouldn’t have liked regardless.

    1. Oh you are so lucky then D: Sometimes if I see a lot of hype I raise my expectations way too high so I tend to try and avoid those books. But that is really interesting, thanks for stopping by!

  6. Although I disagree with #3, I haven’t read any of the others and so have absolutely no way to discuss them hahaha
But I always like to read these type of posts as I feel like, oftentimes, people will just enjoy a book because everyone else enjoyed it. They’re way too biased at the start to form an original opinion.
    So yeah, great post! 🙂

    1. Well, I am glad you liked number three XD Oh that is interesting! I guess I never thought about that before. I think some people do like hyped books just because they are hyped, I know it can be hard as a reviewer to leave negative reviews on books everyone else loved because sometimes people come at you 😛 I don’t let that sway my reviews but that is really interesting!!!!! Thank you for stopping by 🙂
