No one knows what happened that morning at River Point. Five boys went hunting. Four came back. The boys won’t say who fired the shot that killed their friend; the evidence shows it could have been any one of them.
Kate Marino’s senior year internship at the District Attorney’s Office isn’t exactly glamorous—more like an excuse to leave school early that looks good on college applications. Then the DA hands her boss, Mr. Stone, the biggest case her small town of Belle Terre has ever seen. The River Point Boys are all anyone can talk about. Despite their damning toxicology reports the morning of the accident, the DA wants the boys’ case swept under the rug. He owes his political office to their powerful families.
Kate won’t let that happen. Digging up secrets without revealing her own is a dangerous line to walk; Kate has her own reasons for seeking justice for Grant. As she and Stone investigate—the ageing prosecutor relying on Kate to see and hear what he cannot—she realizes that nothing about the case—or the boys—is what it seems. Grant wasn’t who she thought he was, and neither is Stone’s prime suspect. As Kate gets dangerously close to the truth, it becomes clear that the early morning accident might not have been an accident at all—and if Kate doesn’t uncover the true killer, more than one life could be on the line…including her own. -Goodreads.com
When I first saw the summary for This Is Our Story, I knew I had to read it. Just the tagline alone, Five went in. Four came out. made me want to read it. How interesting does that sound? Why did only four of them survive?
Sadly, however, This Is Our Story didn’t live up to my expectations.
What I Liked
- I liked how the cover related to the story. At first I didn’t notice it, but there are five shadows in the background. The person in the middle has a deer head over their outline. It actually relates to the story which is awesome 🙂 plus it’s pretty and I love the colors.
What I Didn’t Like
- I liked the idea of This Is Our Story but I felt like it was missing something. After a while the story seemed to drag on and I began to lose interest. I feel like it misses emotion because it tells more than it shows what’s going on. The scene isn’t set it’s just describe by the characters words or occasional thought. Pretty much the whole story was dialogue which was another thing that really took me out of the story.
- The characters were another thing I didn’t enjoy about This Is Our Story. I felt like they were pretty flat, no one seemed to change. They all were kind of just there, I couldn’t bring myself to care about them either. So when things got intense, I still didn’t care, sadly.
- I don’t have a lot of thoughts on This Is Our Story because I didn’t like it all that much. The emotions were lacking, the characters personalities fell flat and the story was just okay.
