Love Fortunes and Other Disasters Review! (Disaster avoided!!)

5/5

I’ve been excited for Love Fortunes and Other Disasters for a while now, who doesn’t love a good, cute story? Okay, so maybe I love adorable stories a bit too much, but Swoon Reads must be the Publisher for me or something because they focus on the cuteness/romantic/swoon-worthy books I can’t get enough of! I won this book, I SADLY cannot remember from who, so that makes me incredibly sad… so I’m sorry to whoever sent us this book… but I want to thank you and tell you how much I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it! If Love Fortunes and Other Disasters isn’t my favorite book (it may be), it is up there for sure. I’d say it’s in my top ten!

** Fair warning: I say adorable, cute and loveable like a billion times in this review.**

Good

💙The plot. Oh my gosh, can we dwell on the plot for a moment? I haven’t heard of any book like this and it makes me wish there are more like it (are there???) because the idea, plot, characters, EVERYHTING were so loveable. Love Fortunes and Other Disasters introduces us to Zita and her love fortunes, an idea I can’t express how much I loved. Everyone in Grimbaud visits Ziat’s Love Charm shop to get their love fortunes told and they are 100% accurate. I loved how the characters all get together to bring down Zita and change their destiny. I loved the point of view, the fortunes, the charms, the drama, the characters… but the plot… the plot was FANTASTIC!

💙Yes, I mentioned this already, but the characters were all adorable. I liked how all of the main characters were different, and all the unique charm ideas. Fallon lives a (literally) high quality life with her inspector family, and I loved how that shown through her actions! I can’t express my love for Nico and Martin, or how frustrated Camille had me. Every single character was interesting and unique in their own ways.

💙Charms. Man wouldn’t life be weird if we had them? I don’t know if Charms are in a lot of books because this is the first one I have read with anything like it. The idea of being able to buy a love potion or a warm weather in a bottle is really cool to me. I don’t know how Kimberly Karalius did it but she really rocked this book.

This book is as cute as these Corgis are.

Bad

💙Uh…. Um…. I really don’t have anything to put in this section so… carry on!

Verdict

Wow oh wowzers. I’m going to just end this review right here so you can go read it.

A Little Something Different

Another Swoon Reads story. Even though I didn’t fall head over sneakers in love with it, a lot of people found it extremely adorable and cute which is exactly what Love Fortunes and Other Disasters did for me.

Fangirl

Simon and Snow were adorable, and Cath and Levi were adorable… nuff said.

Hello, I Love You

Another contemporary dealing with lovey stuff. Even though I found Grace to be a bit rude at first, there are so many cute characters and moments that can easily be loved.

Have you read Love Fortunes and Other Disasters? Did it make you swoon? What’s your favorite/least favorite thing about romantic books?

  2. This book sounds just like my type of books – such a shame that I opted to pass on it the other day when I saw it at the bookstore! (Ugh I’m definitely regretting that decision now…)

I just finished Hello, I Love You, and I agree that it’s one great read. It’s fun, light, but it tackles deep issues too.

    Great review, Brianna! 🙂
