Mini Review- Red Queen

DNF 53%

I am so sad, so so so so sad. Red Queen was my most anticipated 2015 book along side Queen of Shadows, and Winter of course :)! The story sounded SUPER good but I couldn’t bring myself to finish it at the moment. One day I will comeback to finish it, right now I think I’m just not in the mood for this kind of story.

  • While I loved parts of the book, I felt like nothing happened in the 200 pages I read. Other than Mare becoming a fake Silver and her learning how to act, she also constantly judged everyone.
  • I did like the characters, but why are all the Silvers rude/evil/violent but Mavin and Cal aren’t?
  • Mare didn’t annoy me, but in reality I feel like the things she does would have more consequence.
  • The writing was good, Victoria Aveyard did a great job describing things and setting up the story.
  • I couldn’t just sit down and read this, I kept getting a bit bored D:, the story didn’t hold my attention.

That’s why this is a mini review, I’m just not sure what else to say about Red Queen other than I am super sad I didn’t enjoy this book more!

Well I did read a lot of mixed reviews, so if I were you, I would give this one a chance :)!

I did find some cool quotes I liked…

“You better hide that heart of yours, Lady Titanos. It won’t lead you anywhere you want to go.”

“It’s nice to hear that I’m not completely alone in feeling out of place.”
“That’s something you should know about us Silvers. We’re always alone. In here, and here,” he says, pointing between his head and his heart.
“It keeps you strong.”

  1. I had gripes with Red Queen but I overall really liked it. (The twist at the end is absolutely horrendous, and is either a huge shocker or can be seen at a mile away. I was shocked.) The book seems to be dividing readers. I agree that it has a slow start, but I hope you do someday finish it. It’s not the most original of books but I had a fun time and I’ll be continuing with the series.

    1. I keep hearing about the twist haha 🙂
I will be finishing Red Queen, I just need to give it a break. I’m sure if I come back to it later, I’ll enjoy it more when I’m not as distracted 🙂
      Thanks for visiting!!!

  2. Ahh I’m so sorry you didn’t finish it!! D: Okay so I really agree with you on some points, because I really disliked the first half too, but maybe consider skimming over the end? That’s when things get really intense, and made up for the poop beginning…

    1. I will finish it someday soon 🙂 probably over Summer Break when I have more free time. I NEED to know what the twist is, but at the moment I’m not into this genre, I really want some more contemporary ^_^ even though I don’t like contemporary hahah… weird…

  3. I definitely suggest that, maybe during the summer, you come back to it. There isn’t much that has gone on, but what it does set you up for is an action packed book two that I believe many of us will hopefully enjoy a little better. I did enjoy Red Queen a lot, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it one of my favorites. I’d much rather read what happens AFTER the ending of the novel than to reread the first one. I understand what you’re saying though! It takes some patience to get through it all, but I think once you do, you will be happy that you did!

    1. I keep hearing that 🙂 I will be finishing Red Queen, like you said I’ll most likely finish it over the summer since I’ll have more time. Sounds like a lot of people loved the ending 🙂

  4. I haven’t read this book, but my older sister has and she didn’t like it either 😦 I’m disappointed to hear that this book didn’t work out for you there, what with all the good reviews that keep on coming. Thanks for the review!

    1. Sounds like most people either loved, or disliked Red Queen. It’s fine 🙂 I’m sure the rest of the book is even better (from what I’m hearing it is…)
Thank you for stopping by :D!

    1. Well, I will eventually finish it 🙂 but right now I am very distracted and don’t want to read this genre too much :O
I will finish it over the summer haha 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! Who was your favorite character?

  6. I just finished it! Definitely go back at another point and finish it! I felt kinda sluggish starting it because I too felt the same way you did. At first I was annoyed with how similar it was to other YA novels but I pushed that aside and just kept going. Now I can’t wait for the next one!
