Rebel Belle Review

3/5

Rebel Belle was actually surprising to me. I read a review here on WordPress (I don’t exactly remember where…) and I had it on my to-read shelf before the review, however after reading the review I was like “Huh, this sounds awesome!” So of course I had to read it, Rebel Belle wasn’t disappointing, but it wasn’t the best story I’ve ever read.

I keep reading about peoples thoughts on the Main Character Harper, at first she sort of drove me crazy. I don’t want to sound rude but she doesn’t really take thought for her friends, and works so hard I feel bad for her. I felt like she was a little mean in the begging… yet I found myself growing to like her as the story moves on. Harper is a perfectionist, and I can relate to that, she tries hard, she won’t give up and won’t give in. At the end of the book I found myself more interested in the story that will come in the second book.

I loved all the characters though (eventually) David and Harper’s constant squabbling was hilarious to read and I enjoyed that! Although David did some pretty jerky things near the beginning… Ryan, Bee, Brandon, Saylor, they were all unique characters and I loved them!

One thing I didn’t really like though was the fact that it lacked any magical element. This is supposed to be a magical book yet there was a lack of spells. **Mini spoilers learned early on just warning you!**Harper has the power to fight well and sense when David is in danger like Spidy Senses… **over!**and there were a few spells but not as much as I would have liked.

The way this book was written wasn’t my favorite, I can’t actually point out what exactly made me dislike it. Some moments had me laughing, even though I don’t think they were meant to be funny. One of my favorite lines from the book had me laughing for a while, honestly I have no idea why it amused me so much but here it is…

“No matter how hard I stared, no laser beams. I even tried muttering ‘laser’ under my breath, but nothing.”

I think that line was intended to be funny, maybe? I liked it!

Moving on, the plot was interesting. I loved the idea of the overall story, having a girl have to protect her enemy. I feel like not a lot was accomplished, more could have happened. For example, the events leading to the ending seemed a bit rushed for me. There wasn’t really much to the plot but a lot of dialogue, and like I said above, back and forth arguing between David and Harper.

There was also a love triangle… Yes a love triangle. I had mixed feelings about this especially in the ending. I feel like Harper didn’t need to be involved in a love triangle, like the story would have been just fine without one, it wasn’t really important. Sometimes it got in the way of the story, taking away from the magical Paldin experience… I will say no more, I don’t want to spoil anything!

With all that aside, I did end up enjoying this book. The ending left me almost speechless, so excited to read the next book :)!

This book would be for anyone who likes a light, quick read with a bit of magic and YA love!

  1. I generally do not are for love triangles. I haven’t found that many that were well written, and it bugs me when cheating is condoned in a story. However, you have definitely made this novel sound like an interesting read, and something I will have to pick up.

    Great post!

    1. Me neither. I don’t mind live triangles as much if they are important to the story like in this one in the end it seemed important, same with Ever Darkening. If a story just has one for the heck of it it bothers me hah 😮 Rebel Bell was interesting and funny and unique haha 🙂 the next book comes out this year so I’m excited 🙂 let me know if you decide to read it!

  2. The weirdest thing is that I never would have thought this was a magical book. I really just thought it was going to be about some badass heroine rebel.

    1. Haha me neither. I had some idea that there was a bit of magic and there was, with how the book ended I’m expecting a lot more magic 🙂

  4. I was putting this off for a long time, because of the ‘girly’ theme, but now I think I will give the book a chance 😉 I have a book blog, too—maybe you’ll like it?—http://theenchantedbook,wordpress.com
