Firefight Review (Reckoners #2)

This is book two in the Reckoners Series by Brandon Sanderson.

They told David it was impossible–that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart–invincible, immortal, unconquerable–is dead. And he died by David’s hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there’s no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David’s willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David’s heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic–Firefight. And he’s willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Whoa, what did I just read?

How about an awesome action story that is just plain EPIC! Seriously, best book I’ve read so far this year and I think it’s not going to be easy to beat. I absolutely loves Steelheart and now Firefight is going to be right next to it.

In short the plots amazing, characters awesome, idea….totally EPIC!

David works for the Reckoners and kills Epics who murder others. He’s basically an assassins who loves metaphors. Actually he was obsessed with them in this book, he kept trying to make metaphors this whole time and wrote down the good ones. He’s not just a cold-blooded killer who’s out for blood, he has a heart and is a pretty good person. He just wants people to be free of Epics, who kill just for the heck of it. He’s not the typical main character who becomes the chosen one (well not yet) he’s likable and nerdy (though he doesn’t like to admit it.)

Prof, and Tia are both in this book as well as some newer characters. Mizzy, Val, and Exel. All of which are likable in their own ways. Exel used to work at a morgue so he jokes about death to try to lighten the mood. Mizzy is a girl around Davids age who’s more bubbly than bubble wrap. Val is more of the silent one, she keeps to herself and is the new leader of the Reckoner group in Babylon Restored.

The characters were good and funny, sometimes they even made me smile and want to laugh. I loved Davids obsession with metaphors in this book, it lightened the mood. But the plot…OH MY GOSH THE PLOT!!!! Brandon Sanderson sure knows how to write an awesome-sauce action/adventure story that keeps your interest.

There were twists and turns I never saw coming. Heart breaking, oh my gosh what just happened moments, the ending. Oh my gosh the ending was CRAZY. I cannot wait for the next book Calamity to come out next year, please just come out now. PLEASE?!?! I can’t handle this, I can’t wait. I can’t say much more about the plot without spoiling it but if you liked the first book then you will love the second.

If you need a book that captures your attention, if you like action, adventures and a hopeless world were everyone with powers is evil then please just read Steelheart and Firefight by Brandon Sanderson. I seriously need someone to fangirl with!
